Vasoactive intestinal peptide, a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide found in the gut, brain and other tissues; aviptadil is its synthetic form. In Europe, aviptadil is authorised only in a combination injection with phentolamine (Invicorp), nationally in several countries including Denmark, France, Germany and Sweden; it has no EU-wide (EMA) approval. In April 2022 India's drug regulator also gave a single-ingredient aviptadil injection a restricted emergency approval. It is not approved in the US or Canada.
